Dad's Car

It's rare that family folklore ever comes to pass. My father purchased a brand new Porsche 911 Targa SC in 1979 and as the story goes, promised my older brother that the car would be his when their ages added to 100. My older brother was 9 that year, my father 33 years old. Complex mathematical algorithms make 2008 the year that the chickens come home to roost. Alas, every chicken has a chicklette standing in his way. I drove this car to prom my junior year of high school, and i'll be damned if I give it up without a fight:

Your dad seemed to be distracted by his cell phone at rather inopportune times during his conversation with the mechanic so I thought I would transcribe the portions he may have missed:

"Yeah, Porsches can be handled any way - that's sort of the design of them is to be all encompassing. They love driving on the highway, they love high speeds, and they love running down the highway just as well as little tiny roads."

[re: the suitability of this car to drive 3,000 miles]
"I wouldn't leave tomorrow... I would drive around for a week - a month - and make sure there aren't any weirdnesses, but it seems to be fine"
